I.T.S College of Pharmacy organized an International Guest Session by Dr. Vijayasree V Giridharan, Post Doctoral Research Scientist, Faillace Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, The University of Texas Health Science center at Houston, USA on the topic “Application of Natural products in Cognitive Disorders” for Pharmacy students and faculty on 29th April 2020. Dr. Sadish Kumar S., Director, I.T.S College of Pharmacy opened the session by welcoming everyone and giving a formal introduction about Dr. Vijayasree. Around 50 participants attended the webinar. Dr. A.T. Rajarajan, Senior Scientist, Texas, USA also joined the session and shared some valuable points. In her presentation, she gave an overview of neurological disorders like Dementia and Alzheimers’ disease. She also introduced the participants to factual status of Alzheimers’ disease and various abnormal proteins in neurogenerative disease. Dr. Vijayasree enlightened Faculty & students by throwing light on various hypotheses like amyloid, tau, cholinergic, Infection, brain-gut microbiome & inflammatory involved in Alzheimers’ disease. She also discussed the role of various natural products like Resveratol, Curcumin, Gingkgo biloba, Hyperzine A, Berberine, Quercetin used in the treatment of disease. She also explained research work related to use of Chinese medicine like Shengmai San, Schisandrin B & Inonotus Obliquus in cognition. In the interactive query session, gene therapy & functional food science emerged as the main topics of discussion. The session was formally concluded on a thankful and appreciation note by Dr. Sadish.
